About us

At Summit, we want you to get to know the people who know workers’ compSM. We are the people who can provide employers with the resources and knowledge they need to help keep their employees safe and to prevent accidents from happening in their workplaces.

We are also the people who understand that accidents still happen—and we are here to help. When injuries happen at work, Summit’s goal is to get the injured worker cared for and back to work as swiftly and safely as possible.

“We exist because people get hurt at work. Our goal is to provide employers with the education and guidance they need to help protect their employees from injury.

In the unfortunate event that one occurs, Summit is there through every step of the process, supporting both the employer and injured worker through recovery."

SERVICEClaims

In the unfortunate event that your employees experience a work injury, Summit is here to make the experience as smooth as possible from beginning to end—for both you and your injured workers. Our goal is to help them recover quickly, return to work and resume their normal lifestyles.

At Summit, we are dedicated to making sure you get the most out of your workers’ comp dollars. With more than 40 years of experience in workers’ compensation claims handling, we understand the costs that drive workers’ comp. Our staff is committed to making sure that injured workers get the right care while developing innovative ways to stay on top of growing costs. Decisions are made in-house, so you aren’t getting any surprise fees for case management, billing, adjusting and other claims services. More important, your injured workers get the care and attention they need fast.

You can stay up to date on your business’s claim activity and more. Summit’s Online Business Center offers a variety of tools and support.

24-hour claims reporting.
You can report an injury 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by visiting us online at summitholdings.com and clicking on Report an Injury, by calling 1-800-762-7811, by emailing the injury report to SummitInjuryReporting@summitholdings.com or by faxing your report to 863-667-1871. Reports are handled by Summit staff, who begin our hands-on process for managing claims.

low adjustor caseloads.
Summit’s average lost-time case load is 100 claims per adjustor. That means our adjustors can devote the time necessary to manage a claim properly.

experienced, in-house claims management.
Our specialized claims team is there to guide you and your injured worker through every step of the process.

Nurse case management and physician review.
Summit’s on-staff nurse case managers and medical directors help ensure that medical treatment is appropriate.

SERVICeS | Back2work®

SERVICeSback2work®

Because we understand that accidents can still happen—even if you have initiated safety practices—we also offer Back2work®,   Summit’s return-to-work program. This program is designed to get injured employees back on the job after injuries with transitional duty opportunities in the workplace, which is temporary, light or modified work offered to an injured worker before reaching full recovery. The goal is to have your employee feeling productive and back to his or her regular duties, which also ultimately reduces workers’ comp costs for you.

Why does having a program like Back2work matter? A return-to-work program can save you money by potentially avoiding some major claim costs. While a claim will always include medical charges, such as doctor visits and medications, the overall cost increases when you add lost wages (indemnity) and perhaps even legal costs.

Claims history impacts your experience mod
In workers’ comp, the cost of today’s claim can affect what you pay for your premium in the future. Most businesses are assigned a rating, called an experience modification factor, or mod. You can think of it as your “safety score.” Simply put, your mod compares your claims record to that of all other businesses in your industry, throughout your state.

This number reflects the history of your workers’ comp claims and is one of the most important pieces of data used to determine your workers’ comp premium.

SERVICeS | Medical Care

SERVICeSprovider Network

Insureds will benefit from on-staff medical directors and nurse case managers who review claims and work closely with injured workers and providers. We know the importance of returning injured workers to their jobs and will work to get your employees back to work, if possible.

Injured workers have access to an extensive network of specialty physicians and medical facilities throughout our footprint. Some health care providers in the network offer telemedicine for workers’ comp appointments—and it can be a great benefit to injured workers, providing easier access to care. Summit will work with these providers to help the injured worker receive the care they need.

Whether it’s guiding your injured worker through recovery or providing your business with the resources it needs to stay safe, our wide variety of in-house services all work together to provide employers with premier workers’ comp coverage and resources to protect their employees.

SERVICeS | Premium Audit

SERVICeSpremium Audit

No one likes the word “audit,” but our premium auditors ensure that your business is paying the correct amount of workers’ compensation insurance premium. Believe it or not, an audit can often have a positive impact on the long-term financial health of your company, even if you end up owing money.

Several factors determine the cost of your premium, like the amount of your payroll and how your employees are classified. Because changes may occur in your business during a policy period, annual audits are required to make sure your business is covered appropriately—which, in some cases, can actually save you money if there is a classification error. That’s why we work to create relationships between your staff and ours.

In most cases, your business will be assigned the same auditor year after year. You can contact your auditor with any questions about record-keeping, classifications for new employees or any other topics that come up throughout the year. Your auditor also gets to know you and your business, which means your audits run more smoothly and efficiently.

Classification review.
Our team is available prior to the underwriting application and at midway through the policy year to offer classification expertise.

Audit preparation.
Before the annual audit, our auditors are available to answer your questions, to set up paperwork and to prepare records so everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Fraud prevention.
General contractors sometimes run into premium fraud issues with subcontractors. We can help ensure that subcontractor documents, such as certificates of insurance and workers’ comp exemptions, are valid. We can also educate you on how to verify employee documentation, such as Social Security numbers.

“The audits I did before I worked with Summit weren’t fun. I had prepared the same kind of documentation, but it wasn’t as easy. Summit’s auditor was thoroughly prepared, and the audit went very smoothly.”
-Mary Ann MacLean, Accounting and Human Resources Assistant, SERVPRO
